Day of Caring with Fields to Families Gleaning Program

Calendar
September 11, 2026
Time
8:30am-1:00pm

Description

Join Marion Institute's Fields to Families Gleaning Program for a meaningful day of service at the Fairhaven Acushnet Land Preservation Trust (FALPT) in Acushnet. This former pick-your-own (PYO) farm has become an important community partner, helping connect local agriculture with hunger relief efforts. Volunteers will assist with two essential farm projects. First, we will harvest any ripe tree fruit, such as apples and pears, helping ensure fresh, local produce is recovered and shared with community food pantries rather than going to waste. We will also work alongside FALPT staff to transplant established strawberry plants to a newly prepared field. These hardy plants have adapted to the unique conditions of the farm over many years, and relocating them will improve their long-term health and productivity while preserving this resilient planting for future harvests. Whether you're harvesting fruit or helping establish the next generation of strawberry fields, your efforts will support local agriculture, reduce food waste, and strengthen our regional food system for years to come.
