The South Coast Bikeway Alliance needs volunteers in each of the ten member communities to work with their city and towns and the SCBA to advance their portion of the South Coast Bikeway. Cities and towns included in this plan are Swansea, Somerset, Fall River, Westport, Dartmouth, New Bedford, Fairhaven, Mattapoisett, Marion and Wareham.
The South Coast Bikeway Alliance was started informally in the summer of 2011 and was formally incorporated in 2014.The SCBA is a non-profit organization made up of community representatives and groups that work with local leaders and organizations to advocate for and build the networks of bikeways throughout the South Coast region. Our overall goal is to promote active transportation and recreation. The committee has representatives from each South Coast Bikeway community plus representatives from UMass Dartmouth, the YMCA South Coast/Voices for a Healthy South Coast, and Mass in Motion Fall River and New Bedford. The committee is supported by SRPEDD's Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning Program and typically meets on the second Tuesday of each month.
Volunteers help with grant applications, event planning, advocacy, education and outreach. We meet monthly to share our news, challenges and successes. Currently our meetings are held via zoom and in person. Meetings are held in person in the greater New Bedford area. Please share your time and talent with us and help complete the South Coast Bikeway. Non-cyclists are welcome!
