Description

Coastline’s Foster Grandparent Program, which has been in existence for over 35 years, offers volunteers the opportunity to assist children in classrooms throughout the South Coast.

The students and teachers both benefit from the wisdom and experience of the Foster Grandparent volunteer as he or she works one-on-one and in small groups with children, focusing on literacy and academics, communication, and social skills, which are needed to help a child succeed. This program provides a way to stay active by serving children in the community.

The Foster Grandparents volunteer a minimum of 15 hours each week. Foster Grandparent volunteers receive a small tax-free stipend* for their time and commitment, while benefiting from the impact they make in a child’s life on a daily basis. The program is intended for those age 55 years and older who meet income and criminal history eligibility requirements.

For information on how you can stay active by assisting children in your community, contact Coastline’s Foster Grandparent program, at 508-742-9198 or 508-742-9124.

*This stipend is not counted as income and will not affect most benefits including housing. Funding is provided by AmeriCorps & the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs
