This volunteer position would help plant, weed and manage a small children's garden consisting of 6 raised beds on the Weir River Farm property. The ideal candidate would have experience with taking care of a small vegetable garden and be available a few times a week during the summer growing season.
Qualifications:
- Desire to help plant an educational Children's Garden and help develop the children's interest and understanding of gardening
- Managing a watering and weeding schedule
- Ability to work with staff and Counselors-in-training to educate children about the garden
Duties:
- Set-up a planting plan for the 6 raised beds, some perennials are left from previous years and choices about new vegetables or herbs can be chosen if desired
- Although the children try hard they aren't always able to keep the beds weeded as well as they should be, therefore weeding and keeping the beds watered will be the most important duties for this volunteer position
Time commitment:
1 day a week from April to September
