Who We Are
The Z connects our community with the performing arts and is a cultural destination for the entire Southcoast. It’s a gathering place that connects generations, unites diverse groups and opens a world of possibilities for our children. The Importance of PLACE Experiencing a performance at the Z is made even more magical because of the beauty and history of the theatre including the art deco golden muses, painted friezes and crystal chandelier. A Cultural DESTINATION, The Z presents a stunning array of 120 world class performances a year, infusing energy and life into our community while making it a vibrant place to live and visit. NURTURING the Next Generation The Z’s educational programs engage and excite more than 30,000 local students and teachers each year with over 24 performances, literacy programs, in school residencies and artist workshops that enhance and strengthen student knowledge, curiosity and learning skills. Engaging COMMUNITY The Z maintains a robust Usher Volunteer team and collaborates with 45 community partners on projects that build bridges to understanding and bring the community together. Through our free programs, The Z offers 8,000 tickets to low income families, presents dynamic artist residencies, community dialogues and book club discussions. The Z also provides a well equipped and managed home for the arts, providing a performance venue for resident companies NB Symphony Orchestra, NB Festival Theatre, NB Folk Festival, NB Ballet, and over 25 other community organizations. REVITALIZING Our City Each year, over 111,000 Z patrons fill the city’s restaurants, hotels and attractions. The Z also supports 47 local vendors and 89 jobs and has a $3.8 million economic impact on the local economy.
