Our mission is built on the following beliefs: communities thrive when supported by strong families, society is strengthened by ensuring that children and families attain their full potential, families are the foundation of a strong community and are essential to a healthy society, families have the right to raise children in a safe and nurturing environment, and every person has inherent worth and dignity.
What We Do
Founded in 1843 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, Child & Family Services (CFS) is the largest organization providing social services to children and families in Southeastern Massachusetts. Child & Family Services strives to make communities healthier and more whole by providing programs dedicated to fulfilling basic needs to the State’s most vulnerable populations, including individuals with mental illnesses and special needs, young parents and low-income families. The organization’s 480 employees serve nearly 18,000 individuals and families each year, and the team continues to identify innovative new ways to provide a continuum of care even when budgets are tight. Child & Family Services offers programs to support individuals of all socioeconomic levels, helping them through difficult situations to improve their lives and strengthen the communities in which they live. We are a private, nonprofit, human service agency that provides adoption services, mental health counseling, psychiatry and specialized family support programs to people of all ages living in Greater New Bedford, Greater Fall River, Cape Cod, Lawrence, Florence, Plymouth, Worcester and Waltham.
