Who We Are
The Adult Learning Center offers adult students tuition-free morning or evening classes in Adult Basic Education and English for Speakers of Other Languages. Volunteers are needed in both the morning or evening divisions, typically working alongside teachers or one-on-one with students for one morning or evening a week during the school year. Beyond a high school diploma and a desire to reap the rewards of helping others, literacy volunteers need no specials skills or experience.
What We Do
New Bedford Public Schools Division of Adult Education seeks to provide adult learners with the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to realize achievable goals and make informed decisions as they exercise their rights and responsibilities as learners, family members, and citizens. The New Bedford Public Schools Division of Adult and Continuing Education has been offering literacy education in basic English, math, and technology and in English for Speakers of Other Languages for decades. For more information about the program and volunteer opportunities, please contact Dr. Michael Gauthier, Volunteer Coordinator at 508-997-4511, extension 2419.
