Volunteer: Lunch Buddies Program: Talbot Middle School Fall River

The role of Big Brothers Big Sisters mentors are simply to be an adult friend to a child who could benefit from an additional caring adult in their life.  Adult volunteers (Big Brothers and Big Sisters) meet with their mentee (Littles) at the child's school - during the lunch break one day a week for an hour.

Participating schools: Talbot Middle School in Fall River

The "match" - a one-to-one friendship between an adult and a child of the same gender - gets together weekly for the whole school year to talk, play games, shoot hoops or just hang out. Because positive outcomes result from long-term friendships, we ask that volunteers "Bigs" commit to spending at least the full school year with their Little.

There is no set curriculum, however site-based suggested activity guides are provided. The agency provides professional support to the family, the child and the volunteer to make sure the friendship grows and deepens and that any bumps in the road are overcome.

Volunteer: Big Brothers Needed!

With boys referred to our program at a rate 4 times greater than girls, the need for male mentors (Big Brothers) is ever present.

Being a Big is simple, a few hours, twice a month is all takes to help defend and ignite potential for Southcoast youth. No one is too young (18) or too old (our oldest Big is in his 80's) to make a lasting impact on the life of a child, and your own. From hiking, biking, trips to the beach, mini-golf, ice cream or simply hanging out, the time that you spend helps to guide and shape a future generation of youth. In our program, you're never alone to figure it out, each volunteer has a professional trained support person to guide them through the life of their mentoring friendship.

With COVID-19, we have programs for all comfort levels. From virtual mentoring to socially distanced in person outings, we ensure the safety of our Bigs, Littles and their families.

You can start the process immediately by visiting our website and scheduling your own volunteer interview, or respond to this opportunity and a member of our team will reach out to you!

Not a guy, but know someone who would make a great Big Brother? Forward them this opportunity today!
