Volunteer: Advocacy Volunteer

YWCA SEMA is interested in convening focus groups to gather more information from the community about our shared advocacy agenda.

We will convene focus groups across Southeastern Massachusetts on the issue of Accessible and Affordable Childcare.

We are seeking community volunteers to help facilitate at these focus groups.

Key Responsibilities: Prepare for and facilitate discussions with identified audience. Ensure attendees are clear on the desired outcome of the conversation. Create an environment where all attendees feel comfortable participating in the conversation. Guide and control the conversation so all have the opportunity to speak. Work with YWCA staff/intern to ensure all appropriate information is captured. Note takers to provide notes to YWCA staff/intern within five business days. Impact/outcomes: Focus groups will provide an opportunity to engage community partners and members, and provide essential data to advocacy goal for Affordable and Accessible Childcare in Massachusetts. Training & Support Provided: YWCA SEMA will provide a project overview and a brief training. Volunteers will be provided with a specific set of questions for each focus group. Time Commitment/Schedule: Volunteers must attend a training/orientation by YWCA staff. Scheduling is flexible. Qualifications & Skills Needed: Comfort leading a group conversation. Strong listening skills and ability to use supportive language and encourage conversation. Benefits: Experience in group facilitation. Volunteers will gain insight about Childcare, community needs, and issues. Work with YWCA Advocacy Team.

YWCA Southeastern Massachusetts works to further its key Hallmark goals of Racial Justice and Women?s Economic Advancement, a requirement of affiliation with the YWCA USA. The Director of Advocacy and Communications works directly in these key areas, as well as other public policy issues that meet the growing needs and changes in the lives of women and girls. The Director of Advocacy and Communications leads the marketing, media relations and communications efforts for the organization, as well as the coordination of various special events. Over the course of one semester, your assistance will help maximize efficiency in these areas. You will work under the guidance and supervision of the Director of Advocacy and Communications. Responsibilities: ? Assists the development of Hallmark programming; ? coordinates and promotes advocacy and public policy activities; ? coordinates YWCA Week Without Violence activities; ? coordinates YWCA Stand Against Racism; ? assists at related special events; ? attends Hallmark offerings and trainings for personal/professional development; ? undertakes related tasks, as the needs and operation changes.
