Opportunities From: Volunteer SouthCoast

The Arts & Crafts Teacher will have access to a well-stocked arts and crafts closet which will enable them to create original projects, work from pre-planned projects or kits or teach their own special craft. Many times children may not want to try a craft or project for fear of failure.

Children of all ages enjoy having an interested adult read to them. This past year the only time a volunteer could come in was on a Friday afternoon. I thought that this was the worse possible time as the children had been in school all week and I thought it would never work. Because the volunteer was so enthusiastic, i decided to try it and to my surprise the children looked forward each week and always wanted to know if it was their groups turn. the volunteer stopped by for a visit one day and several children ran up to her hoping that it would be their turn. I learned a great deal from that experience. Don't underestimate the children.

Anyone who is interested in the thrill of successful grant writing, we need you!!! If time does not permit you to do the actual writing of the grant, maybe you could be available to give us advice when we need it. Also, anyone who would like to share information on grants that have become available to the town of Wareham, it would be appreciated. We are new at grant writing and we would appreciate any help that you could give us.

The Homework room helper/volunteer has a wonderful opportunity to impact a child's educational success by working one-on-one with a Club member who may be having difficulty completing homework assignments. One parent, whose child has attended the Club for over 5 years has stated, "I don't know what I would have done without help from the Club's homework room. I work long hours and it is a relief to know that my son's homework is done when I pick him up. This means we have more quality time together without an evening struggle to complete assignments I don't always understand."
