We publish quarterly every 3rd month - March, June, September, and December. The deadlines for submissions are at the end of every preceding month - February, May, August, and November.

We accept the following content:
Articles in the following 6 topics:
Faith
Effective Education
Safe Spaces
Caring Adults
Opportunities to Serve
Health and Wellness
We have a Community Spotlight section that features articles about people or organizations who are doing outstanding things in the community. We also have a featured article section that focuses on something big happening in the community or at our Family Resource Center surrounding the time of the publication.

All submissions must be non-controversial and free of hateful or derogatory content.
We also have affordable advertising for everyone. This advertising is what pays for our magazine so we are always pushing for people to spread the word about this great opportunity! We encourage our contributors to help us obtain advertising.
We are back to printing. Printing is as soon as possible after we are virtually released (dependent on the printing company). Copies can be picked up here at the Family Center upon request.

Volunteer: Recruiting volunteers to help teens living in group homes on the South Shore!Bay State Community Services, is looking for a team of volunteers that can help improve the lives of teens living in group homes on the South Shore. We are looking to create a team that can help us fill some holes in what we can provide to the kids. We house 42 kids twenty-four hours per day seven days a week. We work hard to create a warm, homey, and welcoming environment for our kids who are dealing with many challenges. We are able to feed and shelter them, make sure they are safe and have great staff to work with them, but it is harder to provide them with the extras that make all the difference when you are a teenager. Due to the nature of our programs, this wouldn’t be an on site volunteer program where you come to the houses. Most of this work would be done behind the scenes. At the beginning, I will provide the volunteer team guidance and training on how to connect with businesses and individuals in your community that might be able to donate items to the kids. Please email or call me if you are interested in learning more about the volunteer opportunities and the next steps.
Sincerely,
Sasha Abby VanDerzee Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator volunteers@baystatecs.org (617) 272-0867

Volunteer: Painting Projects at our Main Office in Brockton, MAEvery day our Mental Health Services clinicians meet with clients in their offices. Some of these offices could use a little bit of a face-lift with a new coat of paint! Having a warm and inviting space helps to put our clients at ease. This would be a great project for a Corporate Team Building activity or a meaningful group project for a Service Organization. Would your company consider making a donation towards paint supplies for this project? We are looking to have the painting done by April 30, 2020 before our busy summer season starts! Thank you! Volunteer: Home Fire Campaign
About the Home Fire Campaign
Every day, seven people die in home fires, most victims in homes that lack smoke alarms. Sadly, children and the elderly disproportionately lose their lives. The American Red Cross wants to improve the odds and save lives - that's why we launched our Home Fire Campaign in 2014. A critical part of the campaign is Sound the Alarm, a series of home fire safety and smoke alarm installation events across the country. Together with fire departments and other community partners, Red Cross volunteers: Canvass at-risk neighborhoods Install free smoke alarms Replace batteries in existing alarms Provide fire prevention and safety educationIn just five years, our home visits have accomplished so much, including the installation of more than 1.8 million smoke alarms and preparing more than 1 million people against home fires. Volunteer: Baywatchers-Water Quality MonitorBaywatchers are people like you – local residents who love the water and want to do their part to protect it. These “citizen scientists” go out about one morning per week in summer to test key aspects of the water’s health. Baywatchers volunteer at over 200 monitoring stations in 30 major harbors, coves, and rivers across Buzzards Bay — an area covering more than one-quarter of the Massachusetts coast. Visit our Bay Health section to learn more about where Baywatchers test the water. As part of volunteering, Baywatchers: Commit to monitoring at a designated location one morning per week from May to September. Attend a training to learn how to collect and test water samples. Follow instructions in the Baywatchers kit to ensure accurate measurements. Are comfortable working on docks, piers, beaches, and boat ramps at the water’s edge. The purpose of the program is to: Establish baseline water quality in approximately 30 harbors and coves. Document long-term trends in water quality. Evaluate the success of clean-up efforts.A program of this magnitude is unique to the Greater New Bedford area and it could not be accomplished without the dedication of volunteer citizens. The Bay Health Index is the sum of five health indicators: nitrogen (organic and inorganic), dissolved oxygen, algal pigments, and water clarity. Data are combined and reported as a single score that provides a snapshot of a waterway’s health. (Note: The Bay Health Index does not include bacteria and is not an index of swimmability or shellfish bed status.) The Baywatchers program is focused on nutrients and the effect that excessive nutrient quantities have on the health of the water. All Baywatchers attend a spring training session to learn the proper sampling techniques and receive a training manual, sampling kit, and learn the necessary sampling procedures/protocols. Once properly trained the Baywatcher will then monitor their site once a week between 6:00-9:00 A.M. from May through September. Four times during the sampling season the Baywatcher will also collect water samples that will be analyzed in a Marine Biological Ecosystems laboratory for nutrient concentrations.
