The role of the Youth Adjustment Counselor is to help participants with a diverse array of abilities and social and emotional needs to positively engage in CBC’s Summer Youth Sailing Program.
Since our program runs in one week increments, we are looking for volunteers who could commit to spending at least one full week with us in order to help build relationships with our participants.
The Youth Adjustment Counselor will serve as the point person for consultation needs regarding participants who may require additional support in regards to social/emotional and behavioral needs as well as provide support to program staff, particularly the Junior Instructors. They will communicate with and act as a resource for participants and staff. Work will take place primarily outside, in various weather conditions, both on and off the water.

Responsibilities:
- Provide suggestions and guidance to program staff on how to: minimize common behavior problems and how to work with participants who display a diverse array of emotional and behavioral challenges
- Consults with Assistant Director and COO who will provide direct support and guidance to program staff in meeting the needs of the participant; intervene when appropriate to prevent or resolve problems
- Help to maintain a culture of positive support and behavior management.
- Participate in staff training.
- Engage with staff and participants daily as part of normal course of program operations, both on and off the water.
- Lead activities aimed at improving SEL and overall Social Emotional Wellness, when appropriate.
- Work with program staff to identity participants who may need additional support and spend time with those participants throughout the program day.
Volunteers will need to pass a CORI/SORI background check.
