Mobile Market Overview
United Way’s Mobile Market provides free, locally grown produce to residents of Greater New Bedford in a farmer’s market style setup. Produce is grown at Sharing the Harvest, a program of YMCA Southcoast Dartmouth.
Volunteer Job Description
Mobile Market volunteers will assist the set up (beginning at 5pm) and break down of the Mobile Market. Mobile Market operates from 5:30 – 7 pm or until all produce is depleted. BankFive Mobile Markets rotate between two locations in New Bedford.
Volunteers are expected to:
- Unload produce off the Hunger Commission truck
- Assist with registration and helping residents fill out required application
- Stock produce as it runs low throughout the night
- Assist Mobile Market guests “shop” for food
- Talk to guests about other information available at the market regarding other area services
At the beginning of your shift, let the Mobile Market coordinator know if you are bilingual or have any physical limitations (ie. Can’t lift heavy boxes, can’t stand for long periods) – this will help with evening assignments.
Volunteers are entrusted to treat Mobile Market patrons and other volunteers with dignity and respect.
