Volunteer: Lunch Buddies Program: Talbot Middle School Fall RiverThe role of Big Brothers Big Sisters mentors are simply to be an adult friend to a child who could benefit from an additional caring adult in their life. Adult volunteers (Big Brothers and Big Sisters) meet with their mentee (Littles) at the child's school - during the lunch break one day a week for an hour. Participating schools: Talbot Middle School in Fall River The "match" - a one-to-one friendship between an adult and a child of the same gender - gets together weekly for the whole school year to talk, play games, shoot hoops or just hang out. Because positive outcomes result from long-term friendships, we ask that volunteers "Bigs" commit to spending at least the full school year with their Little. There is no set curriculum, however site-based suggested activity guides are provided. The agency provides professional support to the family, the child and the volunteer to make sure the friendship grows and deepens and that any bumps in the road are overcome.
