Westport River Watershed Alliance

Who We Are

The Westport River Watershed Alliance (WRWA) is a nonprofit environmental organization established in 1976 to protect the natural resources of the 100-square mile Westport River watershed. Located at the entrance to Buzzards Bay in southeastern MA, the watershed encompasses parts of Fall River, Dartmouth, Freetown, and Westport in MA and Little Compton and Tiverton in RI. Its primary goals are to promote the environmental integrity of the Westport River watershed. More than 1,000 families are members. Its 19-member Board of Directors has a diverse representation of watershed residents and talents. WRWA’s full-time staff of 6 includes an Executive Director, Education Director, Science Director, Advocacy Director, Development Director and Office Administrator, three of whom have served the organization for over 10 years.

What We Do

WRWA’s mission is: (1) To protect the environmental integrity of the Westport River watershed and its coastal environs of Buzzards Bay, and to advocate the wise use and preservation of natural resources for the aesthetic, recreational, and economic benefit of area citizens. (2) To educate the general public about the interrelationship of our waters, soils, plants, animals, and people.
