Who We Are

Health Imperatives is a non-profit community based agency that provides vital public health and human services to more than 30,000 families and individuals in Southeastern Massachusetts, the Cape, and Islands each year. For 40 years we have offered a continuum of safety, prevention, and intervention services and have worked with vulnerable populations to create healthy, safe, and vibrant families and communities.

Our mission is to improve the health and well-being of low-income or vulnerable families and individuals in Southeastern Massachusetts.



What We Do

Personal Health and Family Planning Clinics offer personal and reproductive health care services to vulnerable populations including immigrants, gay/lesbian individuals, incarcerated youth, and adults with HIV/AIDS. Services include contraception and pregnancy testing, rapid HIV/Hepatitis C testing, cancer screening, and more. Services are provided throughout the region at our nine locations in: 

  • Attleboro
  • Brockton
  • Hyannis
  • Martha’s Vineyard
  • Nantucket
  • New Bedford
  • Plymouth
  • Wareham
  • Weymouth

Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services include trauma support and counseling for survivors of violence, our emergency domestic violence shelter (the only one in Plymouth County), medical and court/legal advocacy, and prevention education. Services are provided throughout the region at our three locations in:

  • Brockton
  • Plymouth
  • Quincy

Young Parent Education and Support Services provides home visiting services and case management support to young parents, infants, and toddlers to ensure healthy families and children. Services are provided throughout the region at our three locations in:

  • Greater Brockton
  • Blue Hills Region
  • Cape Cod and the Islands

Nutrition Assistance for parents and children, including counseling, education, and food vouchers to support healthy moms and children. Services are provided throughout the region at our eleven locations in: 

  • Falmouth
  • Hyannis
  • Marshfield
  • Mashpee
  • Martha’s Vineyard
  • Middleboro
  • Nantucket
  • Plymouth
  • Rockland
  • South Yarmouth
  • Wareham

Training and Educational Initiatives offer health education, training, and technical assistance services for other service providers and the public. Specialized services include: 

  • Substance abuse resources
  • HIV and AIDS education
  • Teen pregnancy prevention
  • Eliminating health disparities
  • Medical interpreter training
  • Working with LGBTQ youth
